Journeyman Tracker
Tracking for Mission-Critical
Applications
This advanced tracking
course builds team fundamentals to reach higher levels of accuracy and
effectiveness in the field. Additional training in multiple team
operations, sign cutting and interpretation using typical search and
rescue mission scenarios. Requires Level 2—Apprentice Tracker
certification to participate.
Journeyman Trackers demonstrate leadership, knowledge and ability to:
· Respond to searches
and make a presentation to authorities as a Level 3—Journeyman
Tracker.
· Obtain pertinent incident information from SAR, law enforcement
and witnesses.
· Evaluate use of various tracking techniques to meet mission needs.
· Assist incident command or SAR managers in the decision-making
process of interpreting tracking evidence to better direct search
resources.
· Maintain effective communications between SAR management and
tracking resources.
· Maintain detailed notes to aid in report writing.
· Assist in coordinating and briefing tracking teams.
· Work effectively in any tracking team.
· Take charge as tracking team leader when appropriate to mission
effectiveness.
· Recognize and resolve sign contradictions, contamination and prime
sign complexities.
· Follow complicated sign routing.
· Effectively cut sign by locating natural and man-made barriers.
· Complete and submit a comprehensive written report to authorities
at completion of the mission.
· Make basic tracking presentations and prepare students for
advanced missions.
· Complete training logs and provide useful and constructive
feedback to all students.
· Work as a professional at all times with tactful and sensitive
communications to others.
