Apprentice Tracker


The “Next Step” in Tracking Training

This secondary course builds on basic tracking principles with additional instruction and field time in team tracking techniques, working seamlessly with other resources and search management. The mission-critical aspects of tracking are emphasized in this 24 hour training course with classroom and field sessions. Requires Level 1- Basic Tracker certification to participate.

Apprentice Trackers demonstrate:

· Ability to respond, participate and report tracking incidents properly as an apprentice tracker.

· Recognize, identify, describe and explain all tracking terms and definitions.

· Locate and identify specific footprints when mixed with other sign using measurement, comparison and aging characteristics.

· Recognize, describe and identify obvious natural and man-made barriers that would readily show sign.

· Recognize, describe and indicate obvious sign maker characteristics in a line of sign.

· Recognize, describe and indicate examples of sign aging.

· Recognize that inter-personal relationships affect team members and demonstrate ability to address issues in a way to and enhance team effectiveness and achievement.

· Understand the basics of multiple team tracking and participate effectively in practice operations.

· Use proper techniques within the team concept to progressively follow identified sign lines through terrain, vegetation and footprint contaminated areas.

· Explain the evaluation criteria for Level 1, Basic Tracking certification.

· Assist Novice and Level 1 tracking students to understand basic concepts through demonstration, explanation and description.

· Assist Level 3 Journeymen Tracker students with tracking presentations, classes, field exercises and missions - including the writing of mission reports.

· When a higher certified tracker is not available– take responsibility within your training to participate effectively in a mission.
